Uppsala, Sweden -- October 10, 2006 -- MySQL AB, developer of the world’s most popular open source database, today announced that the Swedish branch of International Data Group (IDG), the world’s largest publisher of IT-related information, is migrating all its online news services to a new content management system (CMS) built upon the MySQL open source database. The group’s two main Web sites -- IDG.se and ComputerSweden.idg.se -- have already completed migration, with the remaining Swedish IDG properties lined up to follow.

“Our old Microsoft-based content management system was outdated and needed to be replaced,” said Lottica Fredlund, Webmaster at IDG.se. “We needed more speed and performance to meet increasing demands. After careful evaluation, we picked the Polopoly CMS with MySQL as the backend. Polopoly can be used with different databases and our main consultant on the project recommended MySQL as being reliable, cost-effective and easy to work with.”

IDG Sweden currently runs more than 20 IT and business publications, along with Internet services, recruitment services and direct marketing. IDG is the dominant player in providing information to the Swedish IT market.

“Our new setup allowed significant savings on hardware,” says Web engineer Johannes Hansson at IDG Sweden. “We used to have 13 servers, but our new solution runs on three load-balanced Xeon machines from Dell, backed-up by two servers. So far, all expectations on performance have been met.”
